CARAVAN, A Musical Journey in Africa

A Work in Progress

The caravan routes from West to North Africa through the Sahara have provided an exchange of goods as well as vibrant cultures. "Caravan" follows these routes from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, through Senegal, Gambia, Mali, Niger and Morocco. Musicians from these regions will join composer/ producer Tunde Jegede and perform in their home neighborhoods, from the banks of the Niger River to the old mud buildings of Timbuktu. Some of the musicians are world renowned such as Toumani Diabate, Oumou Sangare, Kasse Mady, and some are relatively unknown such as Bambino from Niger and Wali Cham from Gambia. They all share one thing in common: a deep connection to and love of their cultures

Through extraordinary cinematography, the film captures spectacular landscapes, and is an intimate portrait of these people and their culture.
